August 2008 Nicaragua Mission Trip Completed

An August 2008 construction trip has been completed.

Jeff Bollman was the leader of this team and he was joined by his father, his brother-in-law, several men from Idaho, and by a Gordon Construction Company of Fall City, WA work crew and a couple from Bellevue, WA.

The primary purpose of this trip was  to start Phase I construction of the Dario Christian Academy  (DCA) high school buildings.  Their busy week long itinerary included:
  1. Working onsite of the property purchased to help with the concrete foundations pour and finishing work.
  2. Building relationships with the local and native Nicaraguan construction workers and the children and their families at DCA.
  3. Documenting the building progress with photos and videotaping.

The team members all came home enthused from meeting and working alongside the wonderful local people in the town of Ciudad Dario, Nicaragua.  Team members commented on the warmth and gracious hospitality of the Nicaraguans.

They were blessed that concrete trucks were able to drive on the Pan Ammerican highway all the way from the capital city of Managua to deliver the concrete loads and that it did not rain during the pouring and finishing of the 4000 square foot slab.  This was a miracle as it is the rainy season in Nicaragua.  The team said that rain clouds were all around them, but it didn't cause a problem and they were able to complete their projected work on schedule.

The last day, all of the 250 plus DCA school children at the school complete with a marching band, paraded out to the construction site holding hand-made thank you posters.  The children had prepared a musical presentation to thank the Americans.  All of the construction crew's hearts were so touched by the gratitude of the students and staff and some even wiped away a few tears.

Everyone states that they want to return again to help with the other building phases, if possible.  No date has been set yet for another trip.
